‘New York’ is a story about three friends who study in US, and how their pleasant life becomes tumultuous post 9/11 attacks. The movie is a Yashraj Films presentation.

The lull is finally over and ‘New York’ is going to be the first major release from Bollywood with a good star cast that includes young face Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bollywood hunk John Abraham and lady-luck Katrina Kaif. Yashraj Films is opening the year’s innings with this film.

Directed by Kabir Khan, this is not a typical love story seen in Yashraj films. ‘New York’ has 9/11 attacks as backdrop. Pritam scores well with his commercial music and will not disappoint you. The guest musician is Pankaj Awasthi. Lyricist Sandeep Srivastava and Junaid Wasi have done an above-average work.

The album features four original soundtracks, two remixes and two amazing instrumentals. The first track Hai Junoon by KK is a peppy number. The song’s music is not high on instruments, but the guitar strings work wonders. The song lifts your spirits and leaves you humming the melody after just one hearing. But without remixes an album sounds incomplete so with a dash of electro music Hai Junoon remix is there for you, though the original sounds better.

Mere Sang is another fantastic pop number in the voice of Sunidhi Chauhan. The song’s melody is fresh and in the voice of Sunidhi it becomes a pulsating track. The remix version of this song is just a filler.

A romantic hummable song is Tune Jo Na Kaha vocalized by Mohit Chauhan. The only slow melodious track in the album, this number undoubtedly bears the stamp of Pritam’s music. Earlier too, he has given the same kind of songs. What makes it different is Mohit’s novel voice.

Guest musician Pankaj Awasthi comes with a wonderful rendition Aye Saaye Mere. He has immaculately sung this song with required zeal, indeed the best in the bouquet of four original tracks. You can listen to this track innumerable times.

Then there is instrumental Sam’s Theme which is more like a symphony interspersed with Caralisa Monteiro’s orchestral voice in right synchronization with the music. New York Theme by Julius Packam has foreboding effect that lingers on your mind for long.

Generally films from Yashraj banner come along with good music. They know a good Bollywood entertainer needs good musical scores for commercial success. ‘New York’ doesn’t boast a plethora of songs and the tracks will work with the audience over a period of time. If you want your share of Bollywood music, the album surely revitalizes you after a dull period of almost two and half months.
